Day-by-Day Itinerary

The Amazon sets the tone early: the Breves Narrows and stilted, car-free Afuá before the Equator crossing and open ocean. Then the coast unfolds day by day — two nights at São Luís with access to the dunes and lagoons of Lençóis Maranhenses, a lively afternoon in Fortaleza, and the beach-fringed port of João Pessoa. The final arrival into Salvador is the crescendo: cobblestoned Pelourinho, the beat of capoeira in the squares, and centuries of Afro-Brazilian culture at every turn

The opulence of Belém’s golden era is showcased at the neoclassical-style 1874 Theatro da Paz on the Praça de República. Pretty green spaces are shaded by mango trees and the historical centre has plenty of wonderful museums. The bustling Ver-o-Peso market is Latin America's largest open-air market
