Welcome to Sakitsu Village, a picturesque and quaint fishing community located in Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture. This small village holds a rich, resilient history and was recognized in 2018 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, part of the "Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region." Sakitsu is one of the most significant places where Hidden Christianity (Kakure Kirishitan) survived for centuries despite harsh government persecution. What makes it unique is the quiet harmony in which the secret Christian faith existed alongside traditional Buddhism and Shinto practices. This extraordinary coexistence is still visually evident in the heart of the village today. Leaving the ship by Zodiac we will land directly to the village shore. Upon landing, friendly locals will greet you with a welcome drink and provide you with a detailed map, allowing you the freedom to explore the narrow lanes and waterfront decks (kake) at your leisure. As you walk, collect the cards handed out that will allow you to visit the three key locations that symbolize the village's multi-religious history: Sakitsu Church, this striking Gothic-style Catholic church, famous for its tatami-matted interior and its altar, which stands over the spot where Christians were once forced to trample sacred images (fumi-e). The village's Shinto shrine, which stands right beside the church, representing the outward religious conformity the Hidden Christians adopted. End by the Fuoken Temple (Buddhist), aA local temple that completes the spiritual trio. It will be up to you to decide if you want to walk at your own peace or join the guided walking tour with a local, English-speaking guide. This deeper dive will take you to the church and shrine, allowing you to hear firsthand accounts and historical narratives rooted in each specific location. This is a special opportunity to connect with the past through the voices of the current residents who continue to protect this unique heritage.

Chiran Samurai Residence Gardens & Peace Museum

4小时
A scenic drive will take us south from Kagoshima to the town of Chiran, a place where Japan’s feudal past and its devastating modern history meet in striking contrast. This journey offers a powerful perspective on honor, tradition, and sacrifice. Your first stop is Chiran’s meticulously preserved Samurai Residences and Gardens. Walking along the streets of this former warrior town is like stepping back over 250 years into the Edo Period (1603-1868). The houses, protected by imposing, moss-covered stone walls and topped with distinctive black-tiled roofs, belonged to the middle and lower-ranking samurai of the Satsuma Domain. While some of these ancient estates are still home to the descendants of the original samurai, many of the exquisite gardens are open to the public. Though small in size, these spaces are masterpieces of Japanese landscaping, providing excellent examples of Shakkei, or "borrowed scenery," where the distant mountains and surrounding natural environment are skillfully integrated into the garden design. The overall effect is one of quiet elegance and martial simplicity, reflecting the disciplined life of the samurai. The serenity of the samurai town gives way to a profound sense of remembrance at the Chiran Peace Museum. This powerful, emotional site is dedicated to the young Kamikaze pilots who took off from the nearby base during the final, desperate months of World War II. The museum preserves the last letters, photographs, personal effects, and cockpit remnants of the over 1,000 young men, many barely out of their teens, who flew suicide missions against Allied naval forces. The letters, often addressed to their families, express poignant themes of duty, devotion, and heartbreaking farewells. The museum stands not to glorify war, but to commemorate the personal sacrifice and tragic circumstances of these pilots, and serves as a powerful, somber plea for enduring world peace rooted in the memory of their loss.

Our excursion begins with a transfer to Uwajima Castle. This historic fortress stands as a testament to the architectural brilliance of its original designer, Lord Todo Takatora, a renowned castle-building expert of the Edo period. The castle is exceptional because its donjon (main tower) is one of the very few in Japan that remains in its original, un-rebuilt condition, preserving the authentic craftsmanship and balance of its design. It has been officially designated as a National Important Cultural Asset, marking it as an indispensable piece of Japan's feudal history. Next, we proceed to the Uwajima City Date Museum. Pearl Farming and Yusu Terrace Field

3.5小时
The journey begins with a scenic transfer from the pier to the magnificent Yusu-Mizugaura Terraced Fields. Located along the coast, these steep mountain slopes have been meticulously transformed by generations of local farmers into a complex staircase of stacked-stone farmlands. This ingenious architecture, designed to maximize agricultural productivity in a limited space (primarily for growing potatoes), results in a truly majestic landscape. The terraces cascade down toward the sparkling waters of the Uwa Sea. Recognized nationally for their aesthetic and historical value, these fields have been designated as an Important Cultural Landscape of Japan and selected as one of the country's 100 Famous Views of Rural Japan. Guests will have the opportunity to walk through and experience the unique scale of the terraces firsthand, guided by a local expert. We will proceed to Doi Pearl, where you will delve into the region's prominent aquaculture industry. Uwajima is celebrated for producing some of the highest-graded pearls in the world. At the company headquarters, the President will provide an exclusive presentation detailing the environmental factors that make the local marine conditions ideal for pearl farming. A highlight of the visit is observing a demonstration of the nucleation process, the delicate surgical procedure where the nucleus of a pearl is implanted into the oyster. This offers a rare view into the meticulous craftsmanship required for pearl cultivation. Time will be allotted for browsing and purchasing certified pearl accessories and jewellery at the on-site shop. Good to Know: Guests will have to negotiate about 100 steps at Yusumizugaura Terraced Fields and walk on paved ground. Day image 1
Hiroshima is a city of peace and resilience. The Hiroshima Peace Park and Museum, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, vividly portrays the aftermath of the atomic bombing. Designed by Kenzō Tange and inaugurated in 1955, the museum serves as a global symbol of peace, featuring a solemn cenotaph bearing the victims' names and the Flame of Peace, lit in 1964. The Genbaku Dome stands as the sole original structure left at the blast site

Peace Memorial Park and Museum (In transit Guests)

3.5小时
The excursion provides a seamless transfer to the heart of the city, beginning at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Guests will drive directly to this solemn and historic area, a testament to Hiroshima's miraculous, decades-long recovery and restoration. A key stop is the viewing of the Atomic Bomb Dome (former Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall). This skeletal structure was the only building left standing near the hypocenter of the 1945 blast and has been intentionally preserved in its ruined state. It stands as a powerful UNESCO World Heritage Site and a stark, visual reminder of the destruction caused by the atomic bomb. We will proceed to the Memorial Cenotaph, an arched tomb dedicated to the victims. Beneath the arch lies a stone chest containing the inscribed names of all 220,000 victims, offering a quiet place for reflection and remembrance. The visit culminates at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. The museum, housed in two buildings, provides a comprehensive historical account of Hiroshima, detailing life before the bombing, the events of the nuclear attack, and the aftermath. Exhibits include personal belongings, compelling photographs, and the powerful, moving stories of the victims, showcasing the sadness and profound impact of the disaster. Good to know: This tour involves about 4 km (2.5miles), partially paved, sand, or wooden deck inside the shrine. Visitors are required to follow one-way path inside Itsukushima Shrine and are not allowed to return to the entrance in order to maintain steady flow of visitors walking through the shrine compounds. In the museum, guests will see sensitive material, including graphic pictures and displays of the atrocities of war.
